5 Skincare Products That Actually Do The Work

Skincare products are essential to achieving that flawless natural look many desire. However, with many brands springing up and making so many promises, it’s hard to tell the skincare products that actually do work. It can be quite expensive and frustrating going through many products that barely make a difference. Well, not to worry, I’ve tried out a few different products so you know if it’s worth your time or money.

It’s important to state that this is a review based on my personal experience of using these products. This article is not based on hearsay or theoretical research. So, without any further ado let’s get right into it.

Now, there are different skincare products for specific skincare issues, and many brands that cater to this large demand. Before you settle for any skincare product, you need to know the ingredients in this product ad how it will help your skin. Quite frankly, not many people have time to painstakingly read the fine print, or the patience to put these products to the test. In the world, today, saving every penny where you can counts and that includes not buying multiple products that have similar functions too.

It has been such a journey trying out these few products and still trying out new ones. While some have given the results promised, others haven’t quite lived up to the hype. In this article, I will be sharing some of the products I have personally used and gotten results.

Now, let’s begin with the list;

#1. The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, Skincare products that actually work

This is a must-have if you struggle with oily skin like I do. The Ordinary brand has stayed true to its claims because this product does actually work. I kid you not when I say I got results almost immediately while using this product. The serum is formulated to reduce the production of sebum and reduce large pores. Now, while one can not exactly reduce the size of their pores, it is possible to reduce their appearance so they aren’t so visibly large.

Part of the ingredients includes water, which means it is a water-based serum and an ideal product for oily skin—duh it’s a no-brainer. I use the serum at night, applying it to my freshly cleaned face because this is the time my skin produces an insanely large amount of sebum. It can also be used during the day but should come first before heavier creams.

It’s also a great product to have on under makeup to seal the oils in and have your makeup lasting longer. It does not sting, hurt, or leave any strange sensation on the skin once applied and it is fragrance-free. These features also make it a great product for sensitive and combination skin types as well.

In terms of pricing, the product is very affordable. This is not surprising because the brand prides itself on making quality skincare products accessible to as many people. The price may vary slightly based on your location, nevertheless, it will still be within an affordable range.

I recommend: 10/10

#2. Simple Hydrating Light Moisturizer

Simple hydrating moisturizer

Another must-have staple on your vanity is a good moisturizer. Hydrating the skin after a cleanse helps it look and feel fresh all day. You also need to hydrate your skin if you have oily skin type as leaving your skin dry and bare can cause the production of more sebum. The Simple moisturizer has been my moisturizer of choice for a little while now.

The formula is smooth and hydrates the skin immediately. it does not contain any alcohol or animal derivatives making it the ideal product for vegans and people who like organic products. I also love the fact that it doesn’t have any fragrance also making it suitable for people with sensitive skin. The moisturizer has a water-based formula which makes it compatible with oily skin types.

It contains pro-vitamin B5, vitamin E, glycerin, and borage seed oil which helps to increase the moisture level of the skin and also treats conditions like acne and rosaceas. I apply this in the morings and evenings after serums and other heavier products to seal in the moisture. However, I do sometimes feel a hot flush sensation on my face which may be from rubbing it in too long or too hard. Asides that, it is also a good product to have especially if you’re on a tight skincare budget.

I recommend 8/10

#3. Good Molecules Discoloration Correcting Serum

Good molecules discoloration correcting serum

Acne scars and skin discoloration can be results of having severe acne breakouts or sun damage. It’s sometimes hard to identify the right products that can help even the skin tone. There are so many correcting serums but I decided to opt for the Good Molecules Discoloration Correcting Serum. It’s one of the brands that has been making waves on social media now and has gotten lots of reviews.

The label claims to help even out skin tone and give a balanced complexion. Has it been leaving up to this claim, I would say yes. The product can be used in the morning or evening, but I mostly use it in the mornings after cleansing my face. A few drops — about three, goes a long way when using it.

The main ingredients are 3% tranexamic acid to fight dicoloration and 4% niacinamide which helped improve uneven skin tone and texture. I can definitely confirm that I saw a difference within a few weeks of using the product. My skin used to be really textured but I’ve noticed great improvements in this regard. It’s odorless making a great for sensitive skin types.

Seeing results may take a while or a few bottles if used alone to tackle uneven skin tone and texture. It’s often recommended to be used with another active ingredient such as the Good Molecules Niacinamide Brightening Toner. This will probably produce faster results if you suffer from severe acne scars and sun damage. It can still be used on its own for less sever cases.

It’s fairly affordable and cost about $12 if bought directly from the brands website. Prices may vary depending on your location.

I recommend 9/10

#4. Dr. Rashel’s Vitamin C Serum

Dr. Rashel Vitamin C serum

For that vibrant glowing skin, you need a powerful Vitamin C serum. The Dr. Rashel’s Vitamin C serum is one I’ve used in the past and can say it delivers on giving you that radiant look. The serum is light weight thanks to its water-based formula. It also has a light citrus scent that is not overpowering but fresh.

The serum also helps to sooth and nourish the skin. There have been mixed reviews about the serum but it was quite good for me. Now, if you are looking for a Vitamin C serum to help discoloration and fade spots, this is not the serum for you. The potency to fade scares and spots is quite low so you will need to pair it with a more active ingredient.

It can be used in the morning or evening but I prefer to use I in the evening when the sun is no longer out. If you wold like to use it in the morning, then it should be topped off with sunscreen. Using it without sunscreen and exposing it to day light reduces the potency of the ingredients and may cause more damage. It gives a beautiful dewy glow and is suitable for people with sensitive and oily skin types. The price varies depending on the platform and the location. However, on Amazon it cost about $18 but could be cheaper.

I recommend 8/10

#5. Gavia SunBlock

Gavia Sunblock SPF60

Finally, we have sunscreen. Sunscreen is a must for every person whether you have a skincare routine or not. Most of the skin issues people battle stems from constant sun exposure which damages the skin. Using sunscreen can reduce a whole lot of skin issues and the time it takes to correct these problems.

My sunscreen of choice is the Gavia sunblock, a not so talked about sunscreen. The product is water resistant and sweat resistant. It has a slightly thick consistency and a light fragrance that isn’t unbearable. I like this sunblock not only because its affordable an a lot, but because it doesn’t leave any white cast and blends in well — just don’t let it dry down on your skin before massaging it in.

On the label it says it doesn’t contain any oils, but I’ve found out that it makes my face oily after a few hours of application. It can be used on the entire body so its great for those long days out. Like I said earlier, it’s very affordable for the quantity and will last a while because a little goes a long way. It can be used in the mornings and early evening — and I never step out without applying some to the exposed parts of my skin.

Summary

Sourcing for the right skin care products to help combat whatever skin issues you may be experiencing can be a challenge, given that there are so many to try out. The skincare journey is one that will be filled with many trials and errors but you don’t have to experience them all yourself. If you are unsure where to begin, you can use this list to give you a head start.

It’s also important to note that the products are not arranged in order of application. For the right order to layer your products see this image.
